Made with Castelão

Pegos Claros wines represent the finest winemaking accomplishment in this unique terroir: old Castelão vineyards, with no irrigation, in the sandy soils of Palmela.
Grapevines are segmented by age and the oldest ones are one hundred years old, which result in low yields but highly aromatic concentration. The exclusive use of Castelão grapes in almost all our wines gives them a distinctive signature and a high interest, since this enables the development of a coherent and varied portfolio.
The wines of Pegos Claros have a remarkable personality, balance and elegance. As they benefit from a minimum storage period in the bottle, our wines are released in the market ready to drink and, at the same time, they maintain an enormous cellaring potential.

Pegos Claros wines are special, anywhere in the world. The age of the vineyards in these sandy soils gives them an unrivalled body and personality.

TINTINHA 2019

A century ago, rumours related to a special Castelão. A century-old vines in a small plot that turns out to be Tintinha. It became part of the iconic wines of Pegos Claros and in 2019 we bottled this varietal that honours this extinct variety.

PRIMO 2016

85% Castelão and 15% Tintinha, with a distinctive and artisanal winemaking approach. The fermentation develops in new, 500L French oak barrels, in the vertical position and without lid. After manual pressing, it matures one year in the same barrels and ages in the cellar for a minimum period of two years.
PRIMO was so named for being the first Pegos Claros wine that is not 100% Castelão and, therefore, it is rightly named PRIMO also for being a close relative of our other wines. Discover this rare and exclusive combination.

CLARO 2020

This wine was 100% made with manually-harvested Castelão grapes, in a more premature state of ripeness. The fermentation was in the lagar for 3 days (with low extraction), ending the fermentation process in stainless steel vats. The aging consisted of 40% aged in 500L used French oak barrels and the rest in stainless steel vats. With a clear ruby colour, it possesses the freshness and acidity of a very elegant wine. Fruity and slightly vegetal aroma. Very full and smooth aftertaste with a long finish. Excellent wine as an appetiser, or to pair with fish dishes, risotto and roasted meats.
